Am I the only person who finds it totally and completely absurd that a pattern will be offered for ‘free’ in a particular size, but in order to get the directions for the other sizes you have to pay?
I’ve been home sick today, so naturally I’ve been scouring the internet looking at knitting patterns, in between my napping, for my next project. I finished up my Abalone cardigan over the weekend and I’m itching for a new project and I’m really on this vest/cardigan kick. So I came across the Go Vest and was seriously considering casting on. After all, Ravelry had it listed as a free pattern!
Upon further investigation, however, I discovered that the pattern was only free if you wear a size small. Given that there aren’t any bust measurements for any of the sizes listed I have no way of knowing whether a small will actually fit me or not. I’m assuming here that I will need to knit the medium size since it seems to be what size I knit the most with other patterns.
Hence my frustration: isn’t it a bit discriminating to offer a pattern for free to those who can fit a size small, but not to the rest of us who need a differing size? I mean… if you’re going to offer it for free then please legitimately offer it for free for everyone, not just for someone who can fit that particular size or is able to happily do some math and make some mods to make it fit.
On a related note… I cast on for the Corrie Fair Isle Vest. I can tell already that this is going to be one hell of a long, time consuming knit. I’m really hoping that, in the end, it looks fabulous so that it makes it worth it.
