It’s Mother’s Day, everyone! Did you remember to get your dear mother something? I did! Did you get anything yourself? I haven’t (yet) – I told Sean that I really didn’t want anything so I don’t think he got me anything and I’m okay with that. I’d rather go out and pick something out myself, like maybe some pretty potted flowers or something that way we don’t spend a whole lot of extra money.
The 2peas blogging challenge was to write about a fond memory of your mom, so I sat and thought for a bit and one of the things that really sticks out in my mind is our shopping trips. My mom has become my best shopping friend ever. We always find good deals together and find really cute things, whether it be clothes or house stuff. We often will take an entire day to go shopping and hit all the sales around town. A few months ago we were out from 10am to 7pm! We know each other’s style and we are always looking out for something the other wants/needs and it’s always really fun.
Happy Mothers Day, especially to those like me who are step-parents and don’t get even half the credit they deserve!

Well apparently this weekend it was hurting myself. I’m normally somewhat clumsy in general, but this weekend….. I’ve got some nasty cuts and bruises from everything I did. We spent the entire weekend working on the new house, trying to get it ready for moving in, and during that time I have cut my hands up, bruised my knees pretty bad, dropped a hammer or two on my feet/toes, hit my face with random things, smashed a few fingers, etc.
But I suppose all that was worth it in the end. At least now the bulk of the work is done.
Turns out we had to fix countless leaks in the water pipes. I thought it’d maybe be just one or two but no – it was at least 6, not to mention a big ol piece of pipe was completely missing. We had to tear out the flooring of the bathroom from water damage, and had to get a new toilet and sink (the area around the drain looked like someone tried to pour acid down the thing because it was all cracked) – but I refinished the vanity to save on money. I just sanded it down and painted it, though I don’t know how well it’ll hold up. But it works for now at least.
Yesterday we finally got water going, but not without having to wait for f-o-r-e-v-e-r. The water company tells me that the guy will be in between 9-12. So then at 11:45 I get a phone call saying that the guy is running behind and it should be just another hour. So I waited around two hours for this guy to show up. So then I call the water company, and they tell me that they’ll put in a note to call a 1/2hr ahead so we can go out and get the things we need. Fine. So mom and I go out and go shopping for things I need for the new house and I get a phone call saying ‘Is anyone home? I’m just turning the corner’ – great. I ask the guy if I can call him back and find out where my husband is, because Sean is supposed to be on his way back over, and the guy gives me this ‘well I guess if you have to’ – I really really really wanted to go off on him at that point. I mean, I realize he has other things he needs to do and he is already behind, but that’s not necessarily my problem when we’ve already did our part by waiting around much longer than we should have had to.
So anyway we finally have water, which is a very happy thing for us. I was tired of having to run home to pee, and not having any water to clean things. It took a few hours for the house to fully fill up with water and for us to release some of the air pressure from the pipes (we pressurized them with an air compressor to make sure there weren’t any leaks after we fixed them) but it works! As soon as we got hot water I got to cleaning the kitchen cabinets out so I can start unpacking boxes of extra kitchen stuff. We also got our bathroom sink and vanity in, but we can’t finish it until we put some caulk around something (i don’t really know… Sean’s handling that job). Once that’s done, though, we are good to go.
I’m hoping this week at work is a slow, boring week so I can relax a bit. My whole body aches from putting 12+ hour days in over at the new house. I’d rather not work today and take a vacation day and do more work at the house but I’m worried that I’m wearing myself down and that I’ll get myself sick. So off to work it is, I guess.
